King's Cake Party
A French tradition to celebrate Epiphany on the 6th of January.
A figurine is concealed within the cake and the person who discovers
this figurine in their slice of cake is crowned king.

Recipe for King's Cake
(for 8 to 10 servings)
500g Dough pastry (preferrably 2 circular pieces)
130g Almond powder
100g Sugar
50g Butter
2 Eggs
1 Figurine or a large bean
- Unfold the pastries onto a pan
- In a large bowl, mix together Almond powder, sugar, melted
butter, and 1 egg.
- Put the mixture onto the pastries, leaving a 2cm border
around the edges.
- Place the bean.
- Baste the border of the cake with the eggwhite of the
remaining egg.
- Cover with remaining pastry. Seal edges of the pastry.
- Checker the top of the pastry with a knife.
- Combine the remaining egg yolk with 1 spoon of water,
and baste the top of the cake.
- Bake 10 Minutes at 220 degrees C in a preheated oven,
reduce heat to 150 degrees C and cook for an additional
25 minutes.

The youngest of the audience must wait under the table and
name recipients of the slices when asked by the cutter who
it is for.
