DESCRIPTION: IRC Movie Nights - The Japanese film, 'Ringu' (1998: 96 min.) will be shown. After the death of her cousin Tomoko, reporter Reiko hears stories of a videotape that kills everyone who sees it exactly one week after viewing. At first she discounts the rumors, but when she learns that Tomoko's friend (who watched the video with her) died at exactly the same time, she begins to investigate. After viewing the tape herself, strange things start happening, and so she teams up with her ex-husband to try to stop the death clock that has once again begun ticking. 'Ringu' is the original movie, 'The Ring,' now in theaters starring Naomi Watts, is based upon.

A gang murder on Inchon's 40 Steps leads a rough detective force of seven men, led by Detective Woo (Park) to hunt down a ruthless killer and leader of a massive drug cartel. It's a bloody, action-packed look that parodies police corruption and action films. This tale of homicide detectives combines a strange mix of Hong Kong style action, Three Stooges-ish slapstick and physical comedy with a highly stylized look.

DESCRIPTION: "Top Gun" (1986: 110 min.) will be shown. Maverick is a hot pilot. When he encounters a pair of MiGs over the Persian Gulf, his wingman is clearly outflown and freaks. On almost no fuel, Maverick is able to talk him back down to the Carrier. When his wingman turns in his wings, Maverick is moved up in the standings and sent to the Top Gun Naval Flying School. There he fights the attitudes of the other pilots and an old story of his father's death in combat that killed others due to his father's error. Maverick struggles to be the best pilot,

DESCRIPTION: The Chinese movie, ?Shower? (1999: 92 min.) will be shown. Shenzhen businessman, Da Ming, goes home to Beijing when he thinks his father has died. He finds his father hard at work at the family's bathhouse (the false message was a ruse of Da's mentally-handicapped, exuberant brother, Er Ming, to get Da home). Da stays a couple days, observing his father being social director, marriage counselor, and dispute mediator for his customers and a boon companion to Er. Da is caught between worlds: the decaying district of his childhood and the booming south where he now lives with a wife who's not met his family. When Da realizes his father's health is failing and the district is slated for razing, he must take stock of family and future.
